Papoyan: Gasoline from Azerbaijan helped avoid price surge
Armenia's Minister of Economy believes that gasoline from Azerbaijan has helped avoid a price surge in Armenia amid events in the Middle East and turbulence in the energy market.
Geghark Papoyan said this to journalists on Friday.
According to him, if global fuel prices previously rose by 10%, in Armenia this increase was at the level of 50%. Now the situation is diametrically opposite – while gasoline prices have multiplied worldwide, in Armenia the increase has been extremely insignificant due to supplies from the neighboring country, the official said. Without this, prices would have risen by several hundred drams (1 dollar – 376 drams at the current exchange rate), he added.
Recall that at the beginning of this year, when gasoline imports from Azerbaijan started, prices on the Armenian market dropped from 500–520 drams per liter to 440–460 drams. As a result of ongoing military actions around Iran, gasoline prices have now returned to the level of the end of 2025 — 500–520 drams.
