Madrid rules out participation in military operation in Strait of Hormuz
The Spanish government rules out the possibility of the country participating in any military operation in the Strait of Hormuz. This was stated by the Kingdom's Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares.
According to him, "there is no military solution to this situation." "We need to return to the negotiating table," the Foreign Minister noted in an interview with the TVE television company. "Apart from diplomacy, there is no solution." "At present, the minimum conditions for an operation under the UN flag are absent," the minister added. "We completely rule out any participation in a military operation and any actions that could lead to escalation."
On May 3, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Washington would launch Operation Project Freedom in the Strait of Hormuz. According to the American leader, it will focus on the safe withdrawal of vessels from the strait. He threatened to respond with the use of force "if this humanitarian process is subjected to any interference."
Meanwhile, the head of the National Security Committee of the Iranian Parliament (Majlis), Ebrahim Azizi, warned that Tehran would regard any interference by Washington in navigation in the Strait of Hormuz as a violation of the ceasefire regime. The management of the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf "will not be carried out based on Trump's delusional statements," Azizi wrote on X.
