Media: U.S. seeks 20-year moratorium on uranium enrichment from Iran

Washington wants Tehran to abandon uranium enrichment for 20 years.

This was reported by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing sources.

According to them, the U.S. is trying to secure a 20-year moratorium on uranium enrichment in Iran and is demanding the removal of all enriched nuclear materials currently held by the Islamic Republic. The American administration also insists on the dismantling of nuclear facilities in Isfahan, Natanz, and Fordow, a ban on underground work within the nuclear program, and the conducting of inspections, WSJ writes.

Earlier, CNN, citing sources, reported that Washington and Tehran are discussing the possibility of a moratorium on uranium enrichment in Iran for a period of more than 10 years.

On May 5, the portal Axios claimed that Washington and Tehran are close to signing a one-page memorandum on ending armed conflict. According to its information, the American side expects a response from Iran to the proposals for ending the conflict within 48 hours. A representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmaeil Baghaei, stated that Iran is still considering the U.S. proposals and will later convey its response to the Pakistani side.
