Syria hopes to establish 'calm and stable' relations with Israel
Syrian authorities hope to establish "calm and stable" relations with Israel, despite threats from its side.
This was stated by the foreign minister of the Arab republic, Asaad al-Shaibani.
"Over the past year and a half, we have been facing threats from Israel. <...> We hope to establish calm and stable relations with Israel, as we want to focus on rebuilding [Syria] and creating a safe environment for Syrians to return to the country," he said in response to a question from the newspaper The National.
The minister added that he hopes to establish relations with Israel, despite the lack of significant results in negotiations mediated by the United States. The head of the Syrian Foreign Ministry also called for resuming the UN-sponsored mission on the border between the two countries, which began back in 1974. Earlier, Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa also acknowledged that negotiations with Israel on normalizing relations and concluding a security agreement are not at a deadlock but are proceeding with great difficulties.
