Mirzoyan: Armenia's foreign policy will not be focused only on Russia
Armenia will continue to work on building healthy relations with the Russian Federation.
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, who is on vacation, said this to journalists during the election campaign.
According to him, claims that the Armenian authorities have spoiled relations with Russia are at least unfair.
Yerevan has made, is making, and intends to make efforts to build normal, partnership, and healthy relations, he noted.
"This does not mean that our foreign policy will be concentrated only in this direction. We have voiced our approach – a balanced foreign policy. Yes, we want to diversify various things – both economic ties and at the political level," Mirzoyan said.
At the same time, according to him, this does not mean that one will happen at the expense of the other.
Earlier, on May 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin at a press conference stated that Yerevan should decide as soon as possible on the issue of participation in the EU or the EAEU, while allowing for the possibility of an "intelligent divorce."
In turn, Armenian Prime Minister candidate, leader of the ruling "Civil Contract" party Nikol Pashinyan on May 11 told journalists that Armenia remains a full member of the EAEU, just like all the others, and the referendum will be held when there is an "objective need."
