Pashinyan: elections in Armenia do not contain a geopolitical subtext
Parliamentary elections in Armenia do not have a geopolitical subtext or context, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated during a briefing.
"Both the forces participating in the political process, and analysts, and political leaders or analysts outside Armenia are trying to give these elections a geopolitical subtext or context. These elections have no geopolitical subtext or context at all, and could not have for a simple reason: Armenia has chosen a balanced and balancing policy," he said.
According to him, there are no steps in the authorities' policy directed against anyone, and it is exclusively about providing an alternative to the people.
"There is the European Union, there is the Eurasian Economic Union - our people should have a choice, and the people should have the opportunity to choose which strategy is the most far-sighted and beneficial for them," Pashinyan said.
On May 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Yerevan should decide as soon as possible on the issue of participation in the EU or the EAEU, then a path of "intelligent divorce" is possible.
