Tokayev and Erdogan sign declaration on eternal friendship and expanded partnership of countries

Following the results of bilateral negotiations and the sixth meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council of Kazakhstan and Turkey, the leaders of the countries Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed the Declaration on Eternal Friendship and Expanded Strategic Partnership between the countries, the press service of Akorda reports.

Also, members of the official delegations exchanged other documents, including intergovernmental agreements on the establishment, functioning, and activities of cultural centers and on the mutual promotion and protection of investments; an investment agreement between the government of Kazakhstan and TAV Holding company; a memorandum between the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey on the intention to establish the joint program "Abai-Akif"; a memorandum of intent between the Ministry of Education of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of National Education of Turkey on the opening of two schools of the Turkish Maarif Foundation in Astana and Almaty; an agreement on cooperation in financing the construction of a multidisciplinary hospital in Turkestan and Petropavlovsk; an agreement on cooperation between JSC NC KazMunayGas and Türkiye Petrolleri Anonim Ortaklığı on oilfield services and a memorandum of understanding on the joint implementation of oil and gas projects; an agreement on the establishment of a joint venture for the production and maintenance of ANKA unmanned aerial vehicles.

Other documents were also signed.

During the sixth meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, Tokayev noted that "there are no disagreements or contradictions between our states" and that Turkey is among the largest investors in Kazakhstan and one of the top five main trading partners. The president also noted that the declaration on eternal friendship and expanded strategic partnership "will give a new impetus to the development of Kazakh-Turkish relations."

Tokayev considers it important to create favorable conditions for expanding trade volumes and further diversifying commodity exchange and stated Kazakhstan's readiness to increase export volumes to Turkey for 34 types of goods totaling more than $630 million.

Special attention at the meeting was given to cooperation in the agricultural sector. The Turkish side was also offered a roadmap for intensifying mutual trade in agricultural products for 2026-2028. Tokayev also called on Turkish companies to actively participate in projects to increase cargo transportation through the ports of Kuryk and Aktau and to implement projects in non-resource sectors.

In addition, prospects for interaction in the fields of energy, mining, digitalization and artificial intelligence, the defense complex, as well as cooperation in the energy, defense industry, transport, and logistics sectors were discussed. The parties confirmed their intention to bring bilateral trade turnover to $15 billion.

Separately, the intensive development of cultural and humanitarian contacts between the two countries was emphasized. It is reported that a branch of the Turkish Gazi University will soon begin operating in Shymkent on the basis of a pedagogical university. In a videoconference mode, Tokayev and Erdogan took part in the opening ceremony of the Khoja Ahmed Yasawi School in Turkey. According to Akorda, the modern educational institution, located in the city of Nurdagi in Gaziantep province, is designed for 32 primary and 4 preschool classes. The initiator of the construction of the school in the region affected by the powerful earthquake on February 6, 2023, is Tokayev.
