Trump spoke about 'very good conversation' with Erdogan
President of the United States Donald Trump shared his impressions of his conversation with his Turkish colleague Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Trump stated about a "very good conversation" with Erdogan and reminded that good relations have been established between the two leaders.
"I had a very good phone conversation with President Erdogan," the White House host stated during a conversation with journalists at Andrews military base near Washington. "We have very good relations. Isn't it great to maintain good relations with very tough people? He is a tough person, but no one has such relations with him as I do," the American leader claimed.
"I think that he is really an ally. Some doubt this, but I believe that he is an excellent ally, and his people respect him," Trump added.
Previously, Erdogan's office reported following the conversation that the heads of state discussed preparations for the NATO summit in Ankara, which is scheduled for July. During the negotiations, the Turkish president also called the decision to extend the U.S. ceasefire with Iran a positive event.
Earlier, Turkish authorities proposed that NATO build a military oil pipeline to supply resources to the countries of the eastern flank of the Alliance and reduce dependence on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. The initiative became one of the points of a package of measures that is at the stage of approval in the alliance.
