Lavrov: CSTO will consider applying the charter article to Armenia
Member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) have agreed to consider applying the relevant article of the organization's charter to Armenia due to the republic's failure to pay contributions for two years.
This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a press conference following the meeting of the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM).
"On June 7, the day of the elections in Armenia, my colleague Ararat Samvelovich Mirzoyan, when asked about the CSTO, stated: 'We are not paying contributions because we are simply not participating.' <...> What to do in this situation, we discussed today. And Armenia's debt to the CSTO budget has already been more than two years. The situation provided for by the Charter of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. And today we agreed to look at the activation of the relevant article of the CSTO Charter," Lavrov noted.
