EU expects Trump to drop diesel export ban
European Union officials expect U.S. President Donald Trump to abandon the idea of imposing a 90-day ban on diesel fuel exports in order to curb rising prices.
As Politico writes, Ireland's Energy Minister Darragh O'Brien said that during a visit to Washington last week he received assurances from representatives of the Trump administration that such a decision was unlikely.
"Obviously, any 90-day diesel ban would have a tangible impact on us in the EU. Based on the information I was able to gather in Washington last week, it doesn't look like there is any intention to do that," he said.
EU Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen also noted the public statements by U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright that restricting diesel fuel exports would not produce the desired result.
On September 23, it became known that Trump was considering the possibility of restricting diesel fuel exports amid record price increases in the United States. Producers warned that such a measure could lead to serious disruptions in fuel markets.
