Number of Kazakh servicemen killed during exercises in the Caspian rises to 14 — Defense Ministry
The number of Kazakh servicemen killed during exercises in the Caspian Sea has risen to 14, the press service of the country's Defense Ministry reported on Friday.
According to the Defense Ministry, on September 24 in the Mangistau region, during exercises of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan, while carrying out a training and combat task on the coast of the Caspian Sea, 17 servicemen were swept out to sea due to a sharp deterioration in weather conditions and strengthening winds.
According to the Defense Ministry, on Friday morning, during search and rescue operations, the bodies of two more servicemen who had previously gone missing were found. As a result of the operation, three servicemen were rescued and 14 died.
On Friday, a day of national mourning was declared in Kazakhstan.
