In France, more than 300,000 public sector workers take part in protests
More than 300,000 people took part in public sector workers' demonstrations that were held on September 29 across France.
As TASS reports, this was announced by the BFMTV television channel, citing France's leading trade union center, the General Confederation of Labor (CGT).
According to its data, 70,000 people took to the streets in Paris for the demonstrations. At the same time, the police prefecture of the French capital estimated the number of participants in the Paris rally at 30,000, among them about 8,000 firefighters. As a TASS correspondent reports, no incidents were recorded during the march.
The CGT also reported approximately 30,000 participants in Marseille, 11,000 in Toulouse, 10,000 each in Lille and Bordeaux, and 8,000 each in Lyon and Orleans.
The rallies were held at the call of eight leading French public sector trade unions. Their participants are demanding higher wages, as well as an increase in staffing and funding for public services. The unions are opposed, in particular, to a new freeze on indexation, which the authorities are considering as part of the draft budget for 2027.
