Media: African countries increase purchases of gasoline and diesel from US

U.S. companies are quickly replacing traditional suppliers of gasoline and diesel from the Persian Gulf region in African countries.

The radio station SABC reported this, TASS reports.

Fuel imports from the U.S. to Africa have increased significantly since the start of hostilities in the Persian Gulf last February, it notes. Thus, South Africa imported 5 million barrels of diesel fuel and 400 thousand barrels of gasoline from the U.S. during this period. South Africa has never previously purchased fuel from American companies in such significant volumes.

To date, South Africa does not conduct industrial oil production. The country consumes a little more than 600 thousand barrels of petroleum products per day. Of these, 160 thousand barrels of motor fuel are produced from coal mined in South Africa. The rest is imported from the world market. At the same time, more than 70% of energy carriers traditionally came to South Africa from Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

Côte d'Ivoire and Namibia are making large fuel purchases in the U.S., which previously acquired it from Persian Gulf countries. According to the radio station, the United States is becoming one of the main sources of diesel and gasoline for Africa.
