Monkeypox outbreak: WHO names country with highest number of infections

The World Health Organization has published the latest global statistics on the monkeypox virus.

As 1news.az reports, according to WHO data, based on reports submitted from 16 countries over the past six weeks, 883 new cases of infection were identified.

The highest number of infections was recorded in Madagascar: 767 new cases were registered here over six weeks. The lowest infection rates were noted in China, Denmark, and Ireland — in each of these countries, only one case of infection was identified during the specified period.

It should be noted that monkeypox is a virus that causes an infectious disease in humans and some animals. The disease spreads primarily through close contact with an infected person, skin rash, or biological fluids. Symptoms include fever, headache, muscle pain, swollen lymph nodes, and the subsequent appearance of a rash on the skin. In most cases, the disease resolves within a few weeks, but some people may develop severe complications.
