Armenian fruit fails inspection: Moscow names reason for restrictions
Russia is ready for constructive dialogue with Armenia, but there are certain problems on the Armenian side.
This was stated by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk in an interview with Russian journalist Alexander Yunashev, commenting on the export of Armenian goods, Sputnik Armenia reports.
"Recently, Oksana Lut (head of Russia's Ministry of Agriculture) met with Armenia's Minister of Economy and outlined these problems. Phytosanitary control requirements must be met. It is not a matter of quality, there are various diseases there," Overchuk said regarding the situation surrounding Armenian fruit and the protests by farmers over their inability to sell it.
Since May, Rosselkhoznadzor has been gradually introducing restrictions on supplies of products from Armenia. At first they concerned flowers, vegetables, berries, fruit, grapes, potatoes and dried fruit, and since June 12 — practically all products of plant origin, with the exception of canned goods. The restrictions have also affected supplies of fish products from a number of Armenian enterprises.
The Russian agency explains the measures taken by citing identified violations of phytosanitary and veterinary-sanitary requirements.
