Iran tightens rules for ships in the Strait of Hormuz

Iran plans to impose restrictions, fines, and confiscations on vessels that violate the rules when crossing the Strait of Hormuz.

This was announced by the Iranian shipping control authority in Hormuz, IRIB reports on its Telegram channel.

The agency specified that violators will face fines, detention, or confiscation of their vessels if they continue to use the strait. Shipowners who carry out transportation to and from the Persian Gulf have been advised to review the list of violators in order to avoid problems.

It is noted that vessels cooperating with those already included on the list of violators will also be added to it. To be removed from the list, a special request must be sent to the authority's structures, indicating the reason for the violation of Iranian rules.

Iran and Oman are negotiating a deal whose conclusion should restore shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. According to two sources in the region, it provides for a 60-day temporary agreement between the two countries, under which all vessel traffic through the strait and into the Persian Gulf will follow the northern route through Iranian waters. Meanwhile, all outbound traffic through Hormuz and into the Arabian Sea will follow the southern route through Omani waters in coordination with Iran.
