"Free to make a decision": The Kremlin comments on Pashinyan's position on the CSTO

Armenia may leave the Collective Security Treaty Organization if Yerevan no longer needs membership in it.

This was stated to journalists by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, TASS reports.

"If, by virtue of its national interests, Yerevan no longer needs membership in such an important organization for ensuring regional security, then it is free to make the appropriate decision and leave this organization," Peskov said, commenting on the statement by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan that Yerevan would be pleased if it were expelled from the CSTO.

"So far we have heard statements at various levels from representatives of the Armenian side, who said that yes, membership is frozen, but Armenia is not planning to withdraw for now. At least, such are the statements we have heard so far," the Kremlin representative summed up.
