Head of Baku office of Council of Europe summoned to Azerbaijan's foreign ministry

Representative of the Baku office of the Council of Europe (CE) Petr Zikh was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

As 1news.az reports, this was stated by the MFA.

During the meeting, sharp objections were expressed in connection with the decision of the European Court of Human Rights adopted on June 18 regarding Azerbaijan. It was emphasized that this decision is unfair, biased, and contradicts the provisions of international law.

In connection with the case "Chiragov and others v. Armenia" (decision of June 16, 2016), it was noted that the court established the fact of Armenia's occupation of the territories of Azerbaijan, as well as the existence of an occupation regime with direct military and financial support from Armenia. At the same time, it is emphasized that in the current decision, the designation of these territories as an independent entity called the NKR contradicts international law and judicial practice.

In addition, objections were expressed against the use of terminology that contradicts the internationally recognized sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. It was noted that such formulations as "the line of contact between Azerbaijan and the so-called NKR," as well as references to the "army," "authorities," "prosecutor general," and "ombudsman" of this entity, are viewed as an attempt to legitimize the former illegal separatist regime.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that Azerbaijan categorically rejects this court decision and will consider all possible measures to protect its legitimate interests, as well as take appropriate steps.
