Scheme for illegal sale of psychotropic drugs worth more than $20 million uncovered in Georgia
In Georgia, a scheme for the illegal sale of psychotropic drugs worth 53.8 million lari ($20.2 million) has been uncovered.
Charges have been brought against 24 companies and 31 individuals, including former officials of the agency for the regulation of medical and pharmaceutical activities. 17 people have been detained, three are wanted, and cases have been initiated against 11 defendants without arrest as they cooperated with the investigation.
The network operated since 2018 and sold psychotropic substances without prescriptions throughout the country, even outside pharmacies.
The money was laundered through salaries and dividends, then used to buy real estate and cars. All assets have been seized, and the accused face up to 11 years in prison.
