Iran explains who will manage the Strait of Hormuz
Rules for managing the Strait of Hormuz will be determined by Iran and Oman, the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated.
Foreign ministers of six Arabian monarchies after a meeting in Bahrain on June 25 rejected any attempts to introduce fees for passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
"The Strait of Hormuz is located in the territorial waters of two countries - Iran and Oman, and the fifth point of the memorandum of understanding on ending the war (with the US - ed.) will become the basis for actions regarding the management of navigation in the strait," the Iranian Foreign Ministry responded to the statement of the Arabian monarchies.
According to the fifth point of the signed memorandum, Iran and Oman will hold negotiations regarding issues of future management of the Strait of Hormuz and the provision of related maritime services, other countries of the Persian Gulf will also be included in the dialogue.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry previously explained that the fee for navigation in Hormuz is due to the provision of services and maintaining the environmental situation in the Strait of Hormuz, the Persian and Oman Gulfs. At the same time, Iran pledged not to impose any fees on ships when passing through Hormuz for 60 days from the moment of signing the memorandum with the US.
