Dmitry Medvedev warned Armenia about the severe consequences of breaking ties with Russia
Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation Security Council, Chairman of the United Russia party Dmitry Medvedev stated that breaking long-standing relations with Moscow would entail inevitable severe consequences for ordinary citizens of Armenia.
As the press service of the political organization reports, the politician accused Western countries of a consumerist attitude toward Yerevan. According to him, European states view the republic only as a tool in confrontation with Russia and do not care about the well-being of the Armenian people. Medvedev emphasized that Western partners are purposefully striving to clear the political field of Armenia from any forces advocating for the preservation and development of healthy bilateral contacts between Moscow and Yerevan.
The politician also noted that European countries are absolutely not interested in how the termination of ties formed over decades will affect the living standards of ordinary citizens. As examples of destructive external influence, Medvedev mentioned direct Western interference in the recent election campaign in the republic, the transfer of the state apparatus to manual control, as well as the political persecution of the leader of the opposition party Prosperous Armenia, Gagik Tsarukyan. Summarizing Moscow's position, the deputy head of the Security Council emphasized that Russia will assess the true intentions of the current leadership of Armenia solely by its real practical steps and actions.
