Baghdad calls for resumption of trilateral format of negotiations between Iraq, Iran and Persian Gulf countries
The Iraqi authorities have put forward an official initiative to resume the diplomatic format of meetings uniting Iran, Iraq and the Arab states of the Persian Gulf, expressing their readiness to organize and hold these negotiations in Baghdad.
The corresponding statement was made by Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein following a bilateral meeting with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi. According to the head of the Iraqi foreign policy department, returning to this multilateral dialogue will strengthen regional stability.
Hussein also stressed that Baghdad maintains stable and good relations with the United States of America. Thanks to this diplomatic balance, as the minister noted, Iraq has the opportunity and is ready to facilitate the end of the prolonged state of confrontation between Tehran and Washington. The resumption of negotiations is viewed by the Iraqi side as an important step towards reducing geopolitical risks in the Middle East.
