Ghalibaf: US completely lifts maritime blockade from Iran
The US has completely lifted the maritime blockade from Iran. This was stated by the head of the Iranian negotiating group in dialogue with the US, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf.
Earlier, the US Central Command reported that American forces, on orders from US President Donald Trump, had lifted the maritime blockade from Iranian ports and coastal zones.
"Yes... you saw that Trump announced this, even 30 days had not passed (as the memorandum had supposed – ed.)," Ghalibaf said on Iranian television, responding to a question about whether the US had fully lifted the maritime blockade from Iran.
He stressed that passage for Iranian commercial vessels and tankers is now free, with no obstacles arising when crossing the Gulf of Oman.
According to Ghalibaf, since the lifting of the maritime blockade, Iran has managed to export more than 40 million barrels of oil.
Iran and the US remotely signed a memorandum on the night of June 18 that provides for ending the military conflict that began on February 28. The memorandum also sets the timelines for when the US will lift the maritime blockade and Iran will restore navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
In addition, Iran undertakes not to acquire nuclear weapons, and the issue of the Iranian nuclear program is to be settled by a separate agreement. The parties will hold talks on this within 60 days. The outcome for Tehran should be the lifting of anti-Iran sanctions.
