Russia considers Azerbaijan among possible fuel suppliers for domestic market

In case of need, Russia may arrange gasoline supplies from post-Soviet countries, primarily from Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan.

This was reported to Lenta.ru by the head of the analytical department of the National Energy Security Fund, Alexander Pasechnik.

«It seems Belarus, there are two powerful modules, powerful processing, two large plants — Belarusian import is quite feasible. Again, gasoline can come from Kazakhstan, from Azerbaijan. All this will be built gradually,» the analyst explained.

Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia plans to import a certain volume of gasoline to support the domestic market: «This will be another step towards stabilizing the market, aimed at bringing down this rush demand».

According to Peskov, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak is manually handling issues of measures to stabilize the fuel market.

On June 28, President Vladimir Putin held a meeting on ensuring fuel for the domestic market. The president acknowledged that there are queues at some gas stations, and it is not always possible to buy the required grade of fuel.

Gasoline reserves in Russia amount to 1.7 million tons. According to V. Putin, this practically corresponds to the level for the same period last year, and a slight decrease is four percent. In July, the production of main types of fuel should exceed June indicators, the president added.

The government has created a special headquarters for operational monitoring of the situation, which operates around the clock.
