Munich declares state of emergency due to water shortage
Munich has faced a water shortage due to record heat, prolonged drought and falling groundwater levels.
Bild reports.
Due to the situation, the city has declared a state of emergency in the water supply sector. Mayor Dominik Krause has created a working group tasked with developing measures to preserve remaining reserves.
The publication clarifies that drinking water supply remains stable at present. However, significant restrictions are being introduced in Munich, for example, window washing work is being suspended, at least 10 of the 150 city decorative fountains will be turned off, and this measure will primarily affect those that use large volumes of water.
In addition, local residents have been advised to reduce consumption: do not wash cars, take showers instead of baths, turn off the tap while brushing teeth and do not fill pools.
