Turkey names topics of NATO summit in Ankara
Threats and challenges for the Euro-Atlantic region, Ukraine, and NATO's southern flank will be among the main topics of the alliance's summit in Ankara on July 7-8.
This was stated by the head of the Communications Directorate of the Turkish President's Administration, Burhanettin Duran.
"At the summit, within the framework of a comprehensive approach, steps taken under the decision to increase defense budgets, as well as the alliance's efforts in deterrence and defense, will be assessed. Also at the leaders' level, an exchange of views on the topics of threats, risks, and challenges for the Euro-Atlantic region will take place in a strategic context. The situation in Ukraine and recent developments on NATO's southern flank will be discussed," Duran wrote on X.
The meeting of the North Atlantic Council at the level of heads of state and government of the allied countries, which will be hosted by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will take place on July 8. On July 7, the Turkish leader and his wife Emine Erdogan will host heads of state and government and their spouses at a reception and dinner at the presidential complex. Erdogan's program also includes a large number of bilateral meetings with heads of NATO member delegations. U.S. President Donald Trump will also arrive, for whom Erdogan's administration has prepared a highest-level welcoming ceremony ahead of the bilateral meeting.
In total, as reported by the directorate, 32 countries will be represented at the summit at the level of heads of state and government, and about 100 ministers will arrive. Security is being provided by more than 56,000 law enforcement officers.
