Unique addition: chick of rare white-headed griffon born in Baku Zoo
Baku Zoological Park reported a significant event in the field of fauna conservation — for the first time in the history of the park, it was possible to obtain offspring from the white-headed griffon, which is included in the Red Book of Azerbaijan as a rare and endangered species. Reproduction of this large predator in aviaries is considered a unique achievement, since in the natural habitat these birds reproduce extremely slowly, laying only 1–2 eggs once a year. The birth of the chick is of key importance both for the zoo itself and for the restoration of the natural population of the species in the wild.
The main goal of the updated Baku Zoological Park is the conservation of the biodiversity of Azerbaijan. The activities of the institution are aimed at breeding rare species of animals with their subsequent return to natural habitats as part of reintroduction programs. For this purpose, special conditions are created in the zoo that fully correspond to the biological needs of each species. The successful experience of hatching a chick of the white-headed griffon has become an important practical step towards restoring the population of rare birds and enriching the country's ecosystem.
