Charles Leclerc wins British Grand Prix
Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc won the ninth round of the Formula 1 world championship — the British Grand Prix.
The Sunday race took place on the legendary Silverstone circuit. Mercedes driver George Russell finished second, and another British driver Lewis Hamilton, representing Ferrari, took third place. The race finale was held under the safety car, which appeared on the track due to the retirement of Red Bull driver Max Verstappen several laps before the end of the distance.
This victory was significant for the Monegasque Leclerc — he climbed to the top step of the podium for the first time since October 2024, when he won the United States Grand Prix in Austin. The driver's winless streak at Ferrari lasted for 37 races.
The Silverstone round was unsuccessful for championship leader Kimi Antonelli from Mercedes. The Italian was forced to stop in the pits twice due to technical problems and finished the race in 16th position. Antonelli failed to score points for the second time this season, but retained the lead in the overall standings with 179 points. The leader's closest pursuers remain Russell (154 points) and Hamilton (147 points). In the Constructors' Cup, Mercedes holds first place (333 points), Ferrari is second (255 points), and McLaren is third (179 points). The next, tenth round of the world championship is scheduled in Belgium from July 17 to 19.
