Jean-Michel Brun: during the Karabakh war I noticed one-sidedness in the coverage of the conflict in the West
"I first became interested in Azerbaijan a very long time ago, back in 1983. Later, during the Karabakh war, I returned to the topic, which was often called the 'Armenian question' at the time."
I noticed that only the Armenian position was voiced in the information space, while the Azerbaijani side was almost never given a word. This was reported to the correspondent of 1news.az by the founder of the news portal "Muslims of France" Jean-Michel Brun during the international conference "Media and decolonization: rising voices, strengthening narratives," held in Baku at the initiative of the Baku Initiative Group (BIG). According to him, he also realized that the historical narrative about the Armenian presence in the Caucasus differed significantly from what he had studied. "Then I met with the then Azerbaijani ambassador Rahman Mustafayev, who told me: 'Go to Azerbaijan.' I did so — and discovered this country for myself. As with many French people coming here for the first time, it was an incredible revelation. I discovered an amazing country with an extraordinarily rich culture and incredibly hospitable people. At the same time, I learned the true history of Azerbaijan — a history that many people in the West simply do not know. Since then, for the past five years, I have been coming to Azerbaijan several times a year, and today I consider it almost my second homeland."
