NATO says the alliance is ready to defend all allies from threats coming from Iran

NATO is ready to counter any threats and to defend all of its allies.

This was stated to the Canadian newspaper La Presse by an unnamed representative of the North Atlantic Alliance, commenting on Financial Times reports about Iran's possible preparations for strikes on American facilities in Europe.

«As was already demonstrated this year, when NATO air defense systems successfully intercepted four ballistic missiles launched from Iran in the direction of Turkey, our deterrence and defense system remains strong and effective», the publication quoted the alliance representative as saying.

He also emphasized that NATO is ready to respond to any threat and to take the necessary measures to protect all member states.

Earlier, the Financial Times, citing sources, reported that Iran is considering the possibility of striking American facilities in Europe in the event of a further escalation of relations with the United States after the expiration of the memorandum of understanding.

According to the publication, Iranian forces have been studying the possibility of attacks on American facilities in the countries of Southeastern Europe, in particular in Bulgaria. In July, Sofia approved the use of the «Bezmer» air base for the refueling of American aircraft.

Cyprus is also being considered among Iran's potential targets if hostilities between Tehran and Washington resume.
