Around the world, the t.me domain belonging to Telegram has stopped working
The short domain t.me, owned by Montenegro and used by the messenger Telegram for links to channels, chats, and user profiles, has temporarily stopped working around the world.
As reported by 1news.az citing data from the WhoIs service, the domain name has been assigned the serverHold status, which means it has been disconnected from the global DNS system. As a result, when opening links in the t.me format in browsers, users encounter errors.
At the same time, the main Telegram website at telegram.org continues to operate normally. In the messenger app itself, short links remain available, and in some cases they are automatically replaced with the telegram.me format.
Some users may still be able to open t.me links thanks to the local cache of devices or DNS servers of internet providers.
No official comments have been received from the Telegram administration regarding the reasons for the domain disconnection. According to WhoIs data, the t.me domain is still registered to Telegram, and its registration period expires in May 2035.
The reasons for what happened have not been officially named. According to specialized media, among the possible versions under consideration are a technical failure, internal procedures of the registrar, or legal circumstances. This information has not yet received official confirmation.
