Ankara welcomes ceasefire between U.S. and Iran, calls for full implementation of agreement

The Turkish Foreign Ministry issued a statement regarding the U.S.-Iran agreement on a two-week ceasefire.

We welcome with satisfaction the decision on a temporary ceasefire announced in the conflict zone. We emphasize that the temporary ceasefire must be fully observed on the ground, and we express hope that all parties will adhere to the agreements reached, the statement said.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry stressed that the path to lasting peace is possible only through dialogue, diplomacy, and mutual trust.

We will continue to provide comprehensive support for the successful conclusion of the negotiations that will take place in Islamabad. In this regard, we congratulate our brotherly Pakistan for its role in this process and wish for the continuation of all initiatives that contribute to the establishment of peace, the statement of the Turkish Foreign Ministry noted.

On Wednesday night, President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. and Iran had agreed on a two-week ceasefire. According to him, the U.S. received a 10-point proposal from Iran, which could serve as a working basis for negotiations.

The Supreme National Security Council of Iran subsequently declared victory in the war with the United States, claiming that the U.S. accepted Tehran's 10-point proposal. The U.S., according to the Iranian council, agreed to leave control over the Strait of Hormuz to Tehran, pay compensation, lift sanctions, allow the continuation of uranium enrichment, and withdraw troops from the Middle East.

Negotiations with the U.S. will begin on Friday, April 10, in the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad. Tehran has allocated two weeks for the entire negotiation process, during which a ceasefire regime will be in place. However, the council emphasized that the negotiation process with the U.S. does not mean the end of the war with the States.
