Netanyahu: Israel will continue to strike Hezbollah

Israel intends to continue striking the Shia organization "Hezbollah" in Lebanon until security is ensured in the northern border areas of the Jewish state.

This was stated by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

He made this statement on X, commenting on the elimination of Ali Yusuf Harshi, the personal secretary and nephew of Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem, in Beirut. He also noted that the Israeli army continues to attack Hezbollah infrastructure in southern Lebanon, with recent strikes targeting bridges and military facilities in the area.

"We continue to strike Hezbollah powerfully, precisely, and decisively. <...> Our message is clear: anyone who acts against Israeli civilians will be hit. We will continue to strike Hezbollah wherever necessary until we fully restore security for the residents of the north," Netanyahu emphasized.

Israel has been conducting a military operation against Hezbollah since March 2, when the pro-Iranian Shia organization began launching attacks on Israeli territory in response to the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The Israeli Air Force is targeting sites across Lebanon, while ground forces are advancing in the south of the republic. The stated goal is to create a buffer zone south of the Litani River in southern Lebanon to protect northern Israeli settlements from shelling. Israeli authorities have previously announced their intention to completely demolish all Lebanese border villages and have prohibited hundreds of thousands of local residents, evacuated to northern Lebanon, from returning home.

The day before, the Israeli army reported the most intense series of strikes on Lebanon since the start of the campaign. Within 10 minutes, Israeli Air Force fighters attacked over 100 targets in Beirut, the Bekaa Valley, and southern Lebanon. Iran called this a violation of ceasefire agreements reached the previous day. Tehran stated that these agreements were understood to include a cessation of hostilities in Lebanon. Israel claims that the ceasefire agreement did not cover Lebanon.
