Pezeshkian: U.S. policy exacerbates crisis

The threats and pressure exerted on Iran by the United States are ineffective and only worsen the situation.

This was stated by the President of the Islamic Republic, Masoud Pezeshkian, during a telephone conversation with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron.

"An approach based on threats, pressure, and military actions is ineffective and only complicates the situation and exacerbates the problems created by the American side itself," Pezeshkian's words are quoted on his Telegram channel.

Europe can encourage the United States to engage in negotiations with Iran within the framework of international norms, thereby playing a constructive role in resolving the crisis surrounding the Islamic Republic, the Iranian president also stated.

"Iran is ready to continue negotiations exclusively within the framework of international norms and rules to protect the rights of the Iranian people, and Europe can play a constructive role by urging the United States to adhere to these frameworks," the president's press service quoted him as saying.

On April 11, Iran and the United States held several rounds of negotiations in the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad. The Iranian delegation was led by the Speaker of Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and the American delegation by Vice President JD Vance. As both sides later reported, they failed to reach an agreement on the issue of long-term conflict resolution due to a number of contradictions. The prospects for advancing dialogue between Tehran and Washington remain unclear. The White House announced its intention to impose a naval blockade on Iran starting April 13.
