Pashinyan declares that the issue of justice in Armenia can be resolved through a new Constitution
In Armenia, the judicial system lacks an organic connection with the primary source of power—the people—and this issue can be addressed through the adoption of a new Constitution.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this during the VIII meeting of the EU-Armenia Civil Society Platform.
He noted that different groups perceive justice in varying ways: lawyers, politicians, business representatives, and citizens attribute different meanings to this concept. At the same time, in judicial processes, there are typically two sides—one loses, and the other wins. According to the Prime Minister, the key task is to ensure that both sides perceive the outcome as fair.
"Studying this issue, I have come to the conclusion that the main problem lies in the organic nature of institutions and processes," Pashinyan stated.
He emphasized that under the current conditions in the country, it is difficult to foster a sense of justice, as the judicial system is largely disconnected from society. Furthermore, according to him, the justice system is to a great extent managed by isolated institutions that lack a sufficient level of accountability and responsibility to citizens.
