Lufthansa cancels 20 thousand flights due to fuel shortage
Europe's largest airline, German Lufthansa, will cancel about 20 thousand flights due to a fuel shortage.
This was announced in a press release on the carrier's website.
It is specified that the decision was made to adjust the schedule and reduce the number of unprofitable short-haul flights by 120 per day. In this way, the company expects to save more than 40 thousand tons of aviation kerosene, the price of which has doubled since the start of the conflict with Iran.
The reductions are planned until October. Currently, Lufthansa is secured with fuel for the coming weeks and hopes for 'generally stable supplies' of fuel. Nevertheless, the carrier is concerned with the physical procurement of aviation fuel, as well as price hedging.
