US tells Israel it will not allow resumption of hostilities in Gaza
The United States, amid problems with implementing the peace plan to resolve the situation in the Gaza Strip, informed Israel that it will not allow the resumption of hostilities in the enclave.
Axios reported this, citing American sources.
The portal noted that in dialogue with the US, Israeli officials voiced the possibility of resuming the offensive against positions of the radical Palestinian movement Hamas. In response to such initiatives, US government representatives said they consider the resumption of hostilities counterproductive and an unacceptable way to resolve the existing contradictions.
On January 22, representatives of 19 countries signed the Charter of the Peace Council, created as part of the peaceful settlement in the Gaza Strip, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos. Washington stated that other states have also joined the organization. The Peace Council was created in accordance with the agreement between Israel and Hamas to govern Gaza, but it is also expected to deal with the prevention and resolution of conflicts in other regions. The transition of the settlement in Gaza from the first to the second stage is currently complicated by the issue of disarming Hamas formations.
