WD-40 Manufacturing Company strengthens the fight against counterfeit WD-40 products in Azerbaijan - PHOTO

WD-40 is a universal multifunctional product used to protect metal from corrosion, lubricate mechanisms, eliminate squeaks, and displace moisture.

Due to its effectiveness and versatility, the WD-40 brand has gained global recognition, which at the same time makes it one of the most frequent targets for counterfeiting.

The history of the product dates back to 1953, when the Rocket Chemical Company (USA) developed a formula for corrosion protection in the aerospace industry. A working solution was achieved on the 40th attempt - which is reflected in the name WD-40 (Water Displacement, 40th attempt).

As the popularity of the brand has grown, the volume of counterfeit products has also increased. Counterfeit goods often contain cheap and potentially hazardous components that may not meet established safety standards. Some counterfeit products may even be only partially filled.

Most counterfeit products are manufactured in Iran or China, and their packaging is designed to resemble the genuine product and mislead consumers.

To combat the circulation of counterfeit products in Azerbaijan and protect consumers from being misled, WD-40 Manufacturing Company announces the launch of a Brand Protection Program in the country.

As part of the program, the WD-40 trademarks have been included in the Customs Register of intellectual property objects of Azerbaijan, enabling customs authorities to detain shipments containing counterfeit goods.

Representatives of the WD-40 brand have also conducted monitoring activities at major trading locations in Baku. Approximately 40 retail outlets were inspected, and official notices were sent to sellers requesting the cessation of sales of counterfeit products.

As a next step, the Company may consider administrative and civil actions against sellers who continue offering counterfeit WD-40 products.
