EU discusses strengthening Armenia's resilience after parliamentary elections

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, summarized the results of the meeting of the EU Council of Foreign Ministers held in Luxembourg on June 15, also touching on the parliamentary elections in Armenia.

“Armenia: The elections held last week sent a clear signal: the Armenian people voted for peace, sovereignty, and closer ties with Europe. Strong Russian pressure and economic coercion did not affect the voting results. The ministers discussed how we can further strengthen Armenia’s resilience and diversify the economy,” Kallas wrote on her Facebook page.

It should be recalled that on June 15, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan participated in a discussion within the framework of the EU Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Luxembourg.

On June 14, the Central Election Commission summarized the results of the parliamentary elections in Armenia held on June 7. According to the election results, three political forces entered parliament: the Civil Contract party with 64 mandates, the Strong Armenia bloc with 29 mandates, and the Armenia bloc with 12 mandates.

In the run-up to the June 7 parliamentary elections, Russia imposed bans and restrictions on the import of a number of Armenian goods, which are still in effect. According to the election results, the Civil Contract party achieved a confident victory; it will have a majority in the new parliament and will be able to form a single-party government. Russian President Vladimir Putin has not yet congratulated Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on his victory in the parliamentary elections. Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia is awaiting the announcement of the final election results.
