Pakistan and Qatar announce agreement on plan to reach US-Iran deal

Countries participating in the consultations in Bürgenstock have developed a roadmap toward concluding a final agreement between the US and Iran.

Pakistan and Qatar, acting as mediators between the parties, announced this.

"The high-level committee has agreed on a roadmap to reach final arrangements within 60 days, laying the groundwork for the immediate start of further technical negotiations. In addition, <...> a communication line has been established between the parties to prevent incidents and misunderstandings in order to ensure the safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz," the joint statement by Pakistan and Qatar said.

According to the statement, the countries participating in the four-way consultations in the Swiss town of Bürgenstock agreed to establish a special committee to oversee the progress of the negotiations, with delegation heads expected to report to it regularly.

"Building on the memorandum of understanding, the parties agreed to create a high-level committee that will provide political oversight of the mediation process. The heads of the negotiating teams will report regularly to the committee and lead working groups dealing with the nuclear issue, sanctions, as well as monitoring and dispute resolution to ensure effective implementation of the memorandum and address other issues," the Pakistani-Qatari statement said.

In addition, the creation of a conflict resolution group has been agreed, with Lebanon expected to be involved.

"The parties agreed to establish a conflict resolution group, which will include representatives of the negotiating countries and the Lebanese Republic with the assistance of the mediators, in order to ensure compliance with the terms of the cessation of hostilities in Lebanon," the statement said.

It is noted that technical teams will continue consultations on a number of issues throughout the week, with discussions to take place in Bürgenstock.
