Keir Starmer announces resignation as UK prime minister
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced his resignation.
As The Guardian reports, the politician announced this to journalists in front of his office on 10 Downing Street.
The most likely successor to the post of leader of the Labour Party and head of the cabinet is called Andy Burnham, who won the by-elections to parliament in the Makerfield constituency.
As The Guardian newspaper previously wrote, citing sources, preparations for the transfer of power have already begun: Prime Minister's Secretary Darren Jones met with key member of Burnham's team Louise Haigh.
The day before, US President Donald Trump announced Starmer's resignation. According to the White House chief, the British prime minister "failed" on two important issues — migration and energy.
