Building partially collapses in central Athens after explosion

On Friday, September 25, a two-story building partially collapsed in central Athens following an explosion. One person was injured in the incident.

According to Greek media, the explosion occurred in the Plaka district — a tourist quarter in the very center of Athens, located near the Acropolis and the Temple of Zeus. The cause of the incident is believed to have been a gas leak. The explosion was so powerful that the sound was heard across a significant part of the city's central districts.

Debris damaged parked cars, and the shock wave caused damage to nearby stores. According to the Fire Service, a small fire also broke out after the explosion.

Police rescued two women who had been trapped in a neighboring building. In addition, one passerby was reported injured.
