Khamenei's body to be delivered to Iraq for separate farewell ceremonies
The body of Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed as a result of strikes by the armed forces of the US and Israel, will be delivered to Iraq, where farewell ceremonies will be organized for Shiite Muslims.
This was announced by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei at a briefing in Tehran.
According to him, the authorities of the two countries have already held "necessary consultations on issues related to the ceremonies," and a special committee was formed in Iraq to coordinate with the Iranian side. In turn, Ali Akbar Pourjamshidian, secretary of the headquarters for organizing farewell and funeral ceremonies, explained during a press conference that the body of the ayatollah will be sent to Iraq on July 8.
Iraqi cities of Karbala and Najaf, where the body of Ali Khamenei will be alternately delivered, are considered sacred among Shiites.
