In Baku, a memorandum of understanding on cooperation was signed between the Baku Initiative Group (BIG) and the Institute of Advanced International Studies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Burkina Faso.

As 1news.az correspondent reports, the memorandum was signed by BIG Executive Director Abbas Abbasov and Director General of the Institute of International Studies of Burkina Faso Philippe Sanwidi during the international conference “Media and Decolonization: Rising Voices, Strengthening Narratives,” taking place in Baku at the initiative of the Baku Initiative Group.

It should be recalled that this cooperation is viewed as an important step toward expanding the geography of BIG’s activities in the African direction. Whereas previously BIG signed similar documents with political parties and movements of various countries, the organization is now moving to cooperation with a state body of a foreign country.

As reported, the document will promote effective cooperation with leading research institutes, think tanks, and civil society organizations of African countries. It will also contribute to strengthening scientific and practical ties and implementing joint initiatives between BIG and countries of the Global South.

Under the cooperation, joint analytical reports and policy papers will be prepared and brought to the attention of the international community. They will be devoted to:

problems generated by colonialism on the African continent;

neocolonial governance;

exploitation of natural resources;

mechanisms of economic dependence;

issues of reparations.

As noted, the parties intend to expand cooperation within international organizations in these areas and put forward joint initiatives.

In addition, the partnership provides for regular dialogues, joint research projects, and annual international conferences on the topics of decolonization and neocolonialism. These initiatives will contribute to broader coverage of African realities as well as crimes against humanity committed by major powers throughout history.

The memorandum provides for the participation of BIG experts in events held in African countries. In addition, exchange programs and internships for young researchers are planned, as well as other academic activities.
