Bangladesh wants to join the defense alliance of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey
Bangladesh is expressing interest in joining the "Mecca Pact."
This was reported by a close associate of Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in an interview with the Bangladesh Sangbad Sanstha (BSS) agency.
Pointing to the course toward regional alliances and strategic balance, the Bangladeshi prime minister's adviser on international affairs, Humayun Kabir, told BSS: "The government adheres to the 'Bangladesh first' principle and pursues a balanced foreign policy on the international stage, giving priority to national interests."
"Bangladesh views positively the possibility of joining an economic or defense format involving Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey, taking into account its own interests and the changing dynamics of the global economy and trade," Kabir added.
