Iran has doubled its military production over the past year
The production of weapons and military equipment in Iran has doubled over the past year, and the country is now aiming for a threefold increase as it deepens self-sufficiency in the face of sanctions, said Iranian Defense Ministry spokesman Brigadier General Reza Talaei-Nik.
According to him, defense production has doubled since the 12-day war of 2025. The output of some strategic products that are a priority in wartime grew more than threefold during the latest war, contrary to statements by the leaders of the United States and Israel that Iran's defense production would be halted, Talaei-Nik emphasized.
«We use our own equipment and at the same time continue production. This simultaneous production, combined with strategic reserves built up over the years and daily uninterrupted production within a broad network, has provided the defense industry with high capacity,» he said.
According to the general, more than 9,000 private and knowledge-based companies now operate in the defense sector's supply chain, roughly 20% more than a year earlier. Some 76% of research projects over the past year reached the finished-product stage. He added that the production of certain models of Iranian weapons costs 10 and even 20 times less than foreign counterparts.
Talaei-Nik stated that Iran now produces more than 1,000 types of advanced systems and weapons, compared with just 31 basic items before the Islamic Revolution. He noted that the country is among the top ten powers in missile capability and holds leading positions in the field of drones.
The ministry's spokesman noted that the public display of some systems is deliberately limited in order to preserve military secrets and achieve the element of surprise against the enemy, but commanders are fully informed about production and modernization, including ballistic and cruise missiles, drones and air defense systems.
