Donald Trump republishes map showing the Strait of Hormuz as "U.S. territory"
Donald Trump has once again published on the social network Truth Social an image in which the Strait of Hormuz is designated as "new U.S. territory."
The American leader had previously published similar material on August 18, and Trump first announced his intention to declare the strait territory of the United States on August 14 — at the time, he specified that the decision would be formalized after the end of the military conflict with Iran.
Iran's Foreign Ministry reacted harshly to these statements. Deputy head of the ministry Kazem Gharibabadi emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz "cannot be seized by a tweet, an aircraft carrier, or a campaign speech," and promised to soon correct the American side's misconceptions.
Shipping in the Strait of Hormuz — one of the key routes for global energy supplies — remains virtually blocked. In mid-June, the parties signed a memorandum of understanding to restore safe passage for commercial vessels, but after the exchange of strikes resumed in mid-July, both countries announced a blockade: Tehran closed the strait until U.S. interference ceases, while the U.S. Central Command imposed a restriction on the movement of Iranian vessels.
