New meeting between the US and Iran may take place in Turkey or Egypt
A new round of negotiations between Iran and the United States to resolve the conflict may take place in Turkey or Egypt, Bloomberg reports, citing an informed source.
Earlier, China Central Television, citing informed sources, claimed that representatives of the US and Iran would hold talks in Islamabad this week.
"Turkish and Egyptian officials have also played a role in diplomatic efforts to end the war, increasing the likelihood that the meeting could take place in one of these countries," the agency’s report states.
The agency provides no further details regarding the upcoming meeting.
The US and Israel began striking targets in Iran, including Tehran, on February 28, with reports of destruction and civilian casualties. Iran retaliated with strikes on Israeli territory, as well as on US military facilities in the Middle East region.
US President Donald Trump announced on the night of Wednesday, April 8, that an agreement had been reached with Iran for a two-week ceasefire. On April 11, the countries began negotiations in Islamabad, but by the morning of April 12, Vice President JD Vance, who led the American delegation, reported that the parties had failed to reach an agreement.
Trump subsequently announced the start of a naval blockade of all ships entering and leaving Iranian ports.
