USA may impose tariffs on European automotive industry, says American ambassador
The United States may soon impose 25-percent tariffs on cars manufactured in the European Union if the bloc does not expedite the approval of a trade deal between Washington and Brussels, claims the American ambassador to the EU, Andrew Puzder.
In early May, U.S. President Donald Trump announced his intention to impose tariffs of 25% on cars and trucks from the EU, justifying this by stating that the European Union is not adhering to trade agreements with the U.S. The chairman of the European Parliament's Committee on International Trade, Bernd Lange, later called these tariffs 'unacceptable.'
'If we don't see some significant progress, I think you should probably expect it relatively soon,' Puzder said in an interview with Bloomberg TV.
