Milli Majlis calls CNN publication part of disinformation campaign against Baku

The Temporary Commission of the Milli Majlis on Combating Foreign Interference and Hybrid Threats demanded that CNN prove its unfounded claims.

This is stated in a statement distributed by the commission.

The statement notes that the commission calls on the transnational media company CNN to provide clarification regarding the information provocation against Azerbaijan in the article titled “Israel sent troops to Azerbaijan as part of a secret regional network during the Iranian war,” citing unnamed sources, or to present the public with facts confirming these claims:

“The Milli Majlis Commission on Combating Foreign Interference and Hybrid Threats states that this information was disseminated in order to harm the peace process in the Middle East, as well as the national interests and international reputation of Azerbaijan, and is part of a disinformation campaign. First of all, it should be noted that conducting a targeted information campaign against Azerbaijan by CNN and similar media structures on the eve of important diplomatic and political events, global international events or processes is far from the first time. During monitoring conducted by the commission, it was established that immediately after the publication of the mentioned article, as a result of the tactics and process of 'conjunctural amplification,' this anti-Azerbaijani narrative rapidly spread in most influential world media outlets, as well as on social platforms such as X, Threads, Facebook and Telegram, turning into a large-scale campaign.

The fact that the authors of the article ultimately turned to a person who has always distinguished himself by his anti-Azerbaijani position and at one time worked in media projects funded by the 'Soros Foundation' gives grounds to assume exactly where these origins come from. As our relevant state structures have repeatedly stated, there are no military forces (troops) or bases of any foreign state in our country, and conducting any unfriendly activity against third states from the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan is impossible.

Otherwise, by disseminating materials with wide international reach based on unverified and anonymous sources, CNN will once again confirm that it plays the role of a tool in information operations, false narratives and disinformation campaigns, which are considered important components of hybrid threats.”
